数週間前に見てあげた数学と音楽のレポートの結果が返ってきて、姪から喜びの声が聞けました！
数学では、因数分解に取り組んでいて、その日は3時間も苦戦していました。教科書にはたすき掛けで解く方法が載っていたのですが、私はChatGPTを参考にして別の方法でより簡単に解けていました。しかし、姪はたすき掛けにこだわっていて、10問解くのに3時間ほどかかってしまいました。(笑)とうとうギブアップしたので、私の解き方を教えたところ、簡単に解けました！ 勉強を教えるとき、ChatGPTは本当に役に立っています。私の記憶が薄らいでいても、数学の計算式のプロセスまで解いてくれるので、思い出すことができるのです。
改めてネットで因数分解の解き方を調べたところ、私の解き方は「裏技」として紹介されているものでした。レポートには途中計算式も書かなくてはならないので、教科書に載っていない裏技で解いても大丈夫かと姪は心配していましたが、私はむしろ先生も驚くに違いない！と言っていました。(笑)
その日は因数分解だけしか見てあげられなかったのですが、その他の問題は自分で解いてレポートを提出。そして、先生から「全問正解です！すばらしい！」という言葉をもらい、喜びもひとしおでした。
次に音楽のレポートです。音符の長さの足し算や、好きな音楽家と曲について答える問題、また「自分にとって音楽とは何か？」について書く問いもありました。姪は困っていましたが、私のコーチングで答えを引き出し、自分で文章にまとめてもらいました。最終的にChatGPTに推敲してもらい、姪の結論を先に書いていた文章を時系列でまとめ直しました。確かにその方が自然で、姪も納得していました。文章は型を知ることが大事だと思うので、こうしてGPTに直してもらいながら、自分でも自然に書けるようになるのが目標です。
私の教え方が上手いというよりも、姪が諦めずに努力するからこそ、私の教える力が引き出されているように感じます。小学生の頃から書道を見てあげて、金賞に導いてきました。勉強が特別得意というわけでもない、ただのおばさんですが(笑)、こうして教え子が結果を出すのを見て、大人になってからようやく自分も少しは賢くなったのかなと思います。いつも姪が結果を報告してくれることも、おばさんのやる気が引きだされているのです。
Perfect score! Amazing!
A few weeks ago, the results of the math and music reports I helped my niece with came back, and I was delighted to hear her excitement!
In math, she was working on factorization, and that day she struggled for three hours. The textbook included a method called the "cross-multiplication" technique, but I referenced ChatGPT to solve it more easily using a different method. However, my niece insisted on using the cross-multiplication technique and it took her about three hours to solve ten problems. (lol) Finally, when she gave up, I taught her my method, and she solved them easily! ChatGPT is really helpful when teaching. Even when my memory is fading, it can solve the process of mathematical formulas, helping me remember.
When I researched how to solve factorization on the internet again, I found out that my method was introduced as a "trick." My niece was worried if it was okay to use a trick not in the textbook since she had to write the intermediate calculations in the report. But I assured her that even the teacher would be surprised! (lol)
That day, I could only help her with factorization, but she solved the other problems by herself and submitted the report. She received the feedback, "Perfect score! Amazing!" from her teacher and was overjoyed.
Next, the music report. There were problems about adding the lengths of notes, answering questions about her favorite musicians and songs, and writing about "What does music mean to you?" My niece was struggling, but with my coaching, she was able to come up with answers and write her own sentences. Finally, we had ChatGPT revise it, and it reorganized her conclusion at the beginning into a chronological order. It did indeed seem more natural, and my niece agreed. Knowing the structure of writing is important, so our goal is to have her write naturally while getting help from GPT.
I feel that it’s not my teaching skills but my niece's perseverance that brings out my ability to teach. I have been helping her with calligraphy since elementary school, leading her to win gold awards. Although I'm just an ordinary aunt without any special academic prowess (lol), seeing my pupil succeed makes me feel that I've become a bit wiser as an adult. My niece's reports always motivate me.
