ðŽââïž16km Round-Trip: Mini Velo Cycling in Tokyo
Monday Is for Taking My Exercise Outdoors
Since my gym is closed on Mondays, I decided to stick to my daily cardio routine by going for a bike ride on my mini velo. This time, I chose a 16km round-trip route through the city.
The weather was just rightâcloudy skies and a temperature of around 20â25°C. However, because I left at around 1 p.m., the sunlight felt surprisingly strong. I shouldâve taken UV protection more seriously... lesson learned! Next time, Iâll head out in the evening.
Since I started parking my mini velo indoors, itâs practically part of my interior decor. That makes it incredibly easy to hop on and go whenever I feel like itâtotally different from when I used to keep it out on the balcony.
The moment I think, âMaybe Iâll go for a ride,â Iâm already pedaling. That kind of spontaneous mobility really adds a sense of freedom to daily life.
Iâve got a phone holder attached to the handlebars so I can follow directions with Google Maps. Since Iâve set the app to English, just listening to the voice navigation doubles as casual English listening practice.
The bike parking at my destination issued a ticket just like a car parkâand it was free for five hours! That gave me a real sense of ease and let me enjoy my time without any rush.
A Sweet Break: Mango Parfait Moment
I took a break with a mango parfait. Shopping malls are quiet on Monday afternoons, making it the perfect time to slow down and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere. It almost feels like a secret luxury.
The Way Back: Wind and Freedom over Kachidoki Bridge
On the return trip, I rode across the Kachidoki Bridge. Thereâs something exhilarating about cycling in the bike lane across such a large bridge, feeling the breeze and the openness all around. Once across, it connected smoothly to my usual route toward Ginza, and even though it was 8km one way, it felt like âHuh? Iâm here already?â I arrived in just 35 minutesâno different from taking the Yurikamome Line!
By the way, my parentsâ house is 12km away. After todayâs ride, 8km felt so easy that the idea of cycling 20km round-trip suddenly doesnât seem like a big deal. Compared to the me of 2011âwhen I first got my mini veloâI feel like Iâm in the best shape ever. And of course I am. Iâm doing yoga twice a week, going to the gym daily, and even hiking regularly now.
